The story

For adolescents exposed to conflict, protection involves more than physical safety. The report examines personal capacities and relationships at home and school, using evidence from 3,331 adolescents in 48 schools in government-controlled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk.

A finding to take away

Feeling supported and connected at school is associated with better wellbeing, learning, and safety outcomes. The relevant protective factors differ according to the adversity adolescents face, so support should respond to those differences.

Published in 2019, the report concerns the studyโ€™s eastern Ukraine context. It is not a current assessment of adolescents across Ukraine.
