The story
This brief maps openness between ethnic, linguistic, and political groups and examines tolerance towards marginalised people. It uses the right-bank SCORE Moldova survey of 2,336 respondents, including a nationally representative sample of 1,991 adults and targeted additional samples. I helped design the underlying study and am credited as one of the reportโs three preparers.
A finding to take away
The strongest division identified is between opposing political groups, rather than between speakers of different languages. Intergroup contact, inclusive civic identity, and support for linguistic diversity are associated with greater openness. Experiences of marginalisation undermine those relationships, connecting social inclusion with efforts to reduce polarisation.
These are evidence-informed entry points, not demonstrated effects of a tested intervention. Credits and sample details are on PDF page 2, with findings on pages 3-4; the brief does not publish the separate Transnistria study.
