The story
The barometer starts with Somali priorities rather than importing a fixed checklist of peace indicators. Consultation, survey design, and local validation connect communities’ experiences with national reconciliation goals. I designed the tool with supervised colleagues and led analysis and report work alongside Somali partners, within a process involving federal and state ministries, UN agencies, and donor representatives.
A finding to take away
Family cohesion, community cooperation, and forgiveness are associated with harmony and openness to reconciliation. The report also identifies inclusive leadership and peaceful resource management as relevant entry points. These associations come from a six-district pilot, not a nationwide impact evaluation.
