The story
The report asks how citizens remain constructively engaged in the presence of adversity, divisive narratives, and intergroup tension. It brings civic behaviour and social cohesion into the same analytical frame, drawing on the 2019-2020 SCORE study.
A finding to take away
Active citizenship is not necessarily inclusive citizenship. Civic participation can coexist with aggressive tendencies or divisive views, so a programme that increases participation needs to consider what kind of participation it encourages.
